CIM, ISM, and SCI - Fault Symptom
CIM, ISM and SCL - fault symptom1. CIM - All remote controls inoperable.
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 41021535
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 46006859
Background:
All remote controls are inoperable. No DTC. It is, however, possible to start the car.
Procedure:
Update CIM software.
Note:
New CIM software was introduced as of VIN 41021536 (4D) and 46006860 (CV).
2. One of the remote controls is inoperable.
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 41063612
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 46019650
Background:
The remote control is operable, but it is possible to start the car.
DTCs in CIM: B3114, B3115, B3116, B3117 and B3118.
Procedure:
Replace faulty remote controls. Do not replace CIM.
Note:
New remote controls were introduced as of VIN 41063613 (4D) and 46019651 (CV).
3. The key is not accepted.
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 41063612
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 46019650
Background:
It is not possible to start the car since the key is not accepted.
DTCs in CIM: B3935 and B3055
Procedure:
Replace the faulty remote control.
Note:
New keys/remote controls were introduced as of VIN 41063613 (4D) and 46019651 (CV).
4. CIM - DTC C0548 08 and C0549 08
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440)
Background:
The DTCs can be generated by a voltage drop in the car, e.g. at the workshop or when instructions on battery charger use have not been followed properly.
Procedure:
If both DTCs have been generated, the cause is a temporary voltage drop in the electrical system. Delete the DTCs and check the function. Otherwise, follow standard fault tracing in WIS.
5. CIM - DTC B3948 00
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440)
Background:
The customer has turned in the car for a steering wheel lock fault.
Procedure:
The DTC is informational and is generated because another DTC is generated in SCL. If no DTC has been generated in SCL, perform a readout several times until a DTC can be read out (e.g. B1020 30, B1020 31, B1020 32 etc.).
Do not replace CIM.
6. ISM - Broken key catch
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) up to VIN 31007201
Background:
The customer has turned in the car for a steering wheel lock fault. A material fault in the ignition switch can cause the catch between LOCK and OFF to break.
Procedure:
Use a new key or key of another car to verify that the key catch is broken.
Replace ISM.
Note:
New ISM introduced as of VIN 31007202 (4D).
7. ISM - Key detector gets stuck in the ignition switch (ISM)
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 41033107
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 46011569
Background:
Customer complaint, such as the radio keeps playing, it is not possible to lock the car or that the key warning sounds when the key has been removed.
A material fault in the ignition switch can cause the plastic washer (key detector) which detects whether the key is in or out of the ignition switch, does not go up when the key is removed.
Procedure:
Replace the faulty ISM.
Note:
New improved ISM introduced as of VIN 41033108 (4D) and 46011570 (CV).
8. ISM - Background illumination
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) M04-
Note:
The background illumination in ISM has been eliminated as of M04.
9. SCL - "Not added", CIM - DTC B3943 and B3946
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV
Background:
This is not a problem brought to light by customer complaint.
Procedure:
Delete the DTCs and check the function.
Do not replace CIM or SCL.
Note:
Improved checking of the installation process was introduced as of M05.
10. CIM - DTC C0544 00, faulty function ESP
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D up to VIN 41032378
Saab 9-3 (9440) CV up to VIN 46009781
Background:
Customer complaint about stability control (ESP).
Procedure:
Replace CIM.
Note:
New improved CIM introduced as of VIN 41032379 (4D) and 46009782 (CV).
11. Warning message "Immobilizer fault"
Cars affected:
Saab 9-3 (9440)
Background:
The warning message "Immobilizer fault Attempt restart. Contact workshop" is displayed despite no DTCs and no starting problems.
Procedure:
Carry out "Add" ICM with Tech2 version 117.000 or later.
Any warranty cost should be charged against MIU, not ICM.

New ICM EOL introduced as of VIN 51050577 (4D) and 56015055 (CV).
