Switch Unit, steering wheel. Open Circuit







Fault symptoms
Steering wheel switch faulty.

Conditions
Open circuit: Resistance in the circuit higher than 8 kohm.

Diagnostic help
The steering wheel controls can be read using Tech 2.

The buttons (7 resistors connected in series) are supplied with +5 V from the SID unit. When a button is pressed, the resistor concerned is grounded and this produces the relevant voltage.

Check wiring harness.
Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits in the leads. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic instrument during the test.
