Background
Diagnostic trouble code P0725 71 is not published in the latest issue of WIS (2002-3). Troubleshooting is published in the next issue of WIS.
When the diagnostic trouble code is generated in TCM, diagnostic trouble codes P0016, P0335, P0336, P0337 or P0339 exist in the engine management system.
Symptom description
The transmission warning lamp comes on in MIU.
The message is displayed in SID.
Limited shifting operation.
Procedure

On-Board Diagnosis
Type of diagnosis: Continuous
Input requirements: Engine running. The engine speed on the input shaft exceeds 500 rpm. No faults on bus communication with the engine management system. The Limp Home function is not active.
Fault criteria: The engine speed signal from the engine management system is invalid for more than 4 s.
System reactions in the event of a fault: Limp Home.
OK Report: The engine speed signal is valid for more than 5 min.
Diagnostic help
When the engine management system diagnostics have detected faults on the crankshaft position sensor and stored the diagnostic trouble code for this, the engine speed signal is invalid on the bus for the remainder of the driving cycle. When the diagnostic trouble code for the crankshaft position sensor is not active in the engine management system the correct value is sent out on the bus again. When P0725 71 is generated in TCM, diagnostic trouble codes P0016, P0335, P0336, P0337 or P0339 are already stored in the engine management system.
