Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair

To remove
1. Dismantle the steering column assembly, see Steering column assembly, and place it on a bench.
Note: The steering shaft components are coded for fitting one way only.
2. Mark the steering shaft with a felt-tip pen on both sides of the steering shaft tube.
3. Pull apart the steering column assembly.
4. Remove the lock screw.
5. Carefully press in the catch and remove the attachment.
6. Remove the circlip and the spring washer.
7. Dismantle the bearing carrier with bearing.
8. Remove the steering wheel angle sensor.
To fit
1. Fit the steering wheel angel sensor to the shaft. Make sure the groove in the sensor and the heel on the shaft are aligned.
2. Affix and complete the label.
3. Fit the bearing carrier with bearing.
4. Fit the spring washer and circlip.
5. Fit the attach meet.
Note: Make sure the catch engages properly.
6. Fit the lock screw.
7. Align the marks on both parts of the shaft and carefully press together the steering column assembly.
It should be easy to press together the steering column assembly.
8. Fit the steering column assembly into the car.
9. Calibrate the steering wheel angel sensor.
