Control Module

General

The control module is integrated in the SID. The SID has a 25-pin connector. The control module receives information from its own sensors and switches as well as information from other systems.
The information is processed and used to activate the horn, control instrument and display lighting, shoe CHECK messages and calculate trip computer functions. Certain data is transmitted by the SID on the bus.
The SID is supplied with current via the +30 circuit and is designed to operate at a voltage of between 9 and 16 V. When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the control module display lights up. If the ignition switch is in the OFF position, text from systems connected to the bus can still be shown on the SID.

The SID is active in the following situations:
- With the ignition in the +15 position, all SID functions will be turned on except timer programming for the parking heater (accessory).
- With the ignition OFF, the SID is turned on by information on the bus as follows:
- Remains on for 20 minutes if turned on by DICE.
- Kept active by audio system to show settings on the display.
- Can communicate with Tech 2 if the SID is turned on via the bus.
- The timer for the parking heater can be programmed and started.
- With the ignition OFF, the parking heater and clock can still be activated and the anti-theft alarm sensors disabled.

If a fault occurs, the control module stores the diagnostic trouble codes. When the SID is replaced, it must be ordered for the car concerned and programmed by Saab Automobile.
When handling the control module, it is important to ground yourself first by touching the car body, for example. Avoid touching the pins in the SID connector.

Diagnostics
The control module monitors its internal functions and inputs/outputs.
If an internal control module fault occurs, diagnostic trouble code B1605 will be generated.

Control Module Power Supply

Battery voltage (+30 circuit)
Current (+30 circuit) is supplied via fuse 8 (22a) to pin 5 of the SID connector.

Battery voltage (+15 circuit)
Current (+15 circuit) is supplied via fuse 27 (22a) to pin 25 of the SID connector.
The SID is activated by current from the +15 circuit.

Diagnostics
If no current from the +30 circuit is present, the display will not be active and diagnostic communication will not be possible.

If no current from the +15 circuit is present, the display will not be active but can be turned on via the bus by switching on the radio, for example. Diagnostic communication will be possible with limited functions if the ignition key is turned to ON.

The SID will not generate a diagnostic trouble code if no current is present from either the +30 or +15 circuits.

Control Module Ground

Ground connection
The SID is grounded via pin 13 at grounding point G41S.

Diagnostics
If there is no ground connection, the display will not be active and diagnostic communication will not be possible.
The SID will not generate any diagnostic trouble codes if the is no ground connection.
