Exchange Of Ashtray With Wood Or Carbon Fibre Front Panel

Saab 9-5 with wood or carbon fibre front panel on the ashtray.

Background

When changing out an ashtray with a wood or carbon fibre front panel that has an undamaged front panel order an ashtray with a plastic front panel. The old front panel should be moved to the new ash tray to avoid the differences in nuance and shading that can occur between different examples of wood and carbon fibre inlays.

If the front panel of the ashtray is undamaged the following procedure should be performed.

Procedure

1. Pull the ashtray out of the holder.







2. Carefully bend the ashtray holder's clips out of the way using a screwdriver, first the 2 lower ones then the 2 upper ones, while pulling the ashtray holder out.







3. Carefully bend both of the front panel's side plates outward so that they can pass the locking catches.







4. Fold the front panel forward. Bend the metal plate in the ashtray up a bit if necessary.

NOTE: Be careful so that the pivot pin does not break off.







5. Unhook the front panel from the ashtray. Do not lose the spring.

NOTE: Spring's position.

6. Disassemble the plastic front panel from the new ashtray according to steps 3-5.
7. Position the spring on the new ashtray and hold it in place.







NOTE: Be careful so that the pivot pin does not break off.

8. Hook the wood or carbon fibre front panel's pivot pin into the new ashtray and fold the front panel into place. Bend the metal sheet in the ashtray up a bit if necessary.
9. Mount the new ashtray holder in the panel.







10. Insert the new ashtray.
