ABS Warning Light Fails to Come On
Fault symptoms
The ABS warning light does not come on. (The ABS warning-light test is activated when the ignition is switched on. During this test, the light should come on for about three seconds.)
Diagnostic help
The ABS warning light can be activated using the diagnostic tool.
- Select: "Activate".
- Select: "ABS warning light".
Conditions
Fault in circuit between pin 21 of the ABS control module and the ABS warning light on the MIU.
Diagnostic procedure
1. Check ABS Functionality
Unplug the connector
^ Control module, ABS (547)
^ Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
^ Connect a jumper lead between pins 19 and 21 of the female connector.
^ The ABS lamp should light up.
Is the function correct?
YES
Go To Step 2
NO
Go To Step 3
2. Checking the lead
Check the lead between pin 21 of the ABS control module and pin 10 of the MIU (K20).
Is the wiring OK?
NO
Go To Step 4
YES
Go To Step 5
3. Check Lamp Functionality
Check the control module connector for moisture, corrosion and displaced pins.
Correct as necessary
Go To Step 6
4. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead
When repair is complete
Go To Step 6
5. Checking The Lead
Continue with fault diagnosis on the MIU.
Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators
6. Final Check
^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
^ Carry out a drive cycle
Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
^ Evaluate the drive cycle:
^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
YES
Go To Step 7
NO
Go To Step 8
7. Final Check
The steps taken to correct the fault were correct.
^ Diagnosis is complete.
