Throttle Position Sensor 1 and 2 Circuit. Sum Out of Range (No Limp Home).
Fault symptoms
- Usually none but the engine may be jerky at constant speeds or have an irregular idling speed.
On-Board Diagnostics
Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.
Enable criteria:
- Ignition in ON position.
Fault criteria:
- The sum of voltages from throttle position sensors 1 and 2 exceeds 5.70V for more than 320ms
Dependents:
- None.
System reaction to a fault:
- None.
OK report:
- Accelerator pedal has been depressed at some time and then fully released. 120 s has expired since then without fault criteria being fulfilled.
Fault handling: (See Fault handling III, other emission-related components and functions for more information.)
- Type III.
Diagnostic help
- New diagnostic trouble code used only for information purposes to indicate a minor disturbance in throttle control. This disturbance is not serious from a safety point of view. The DTC has been added to avoid changing the throttle body, ignition discharge modules or other components due to this type of fault.
The DTC is generated in case of repeated, sporadic and very brief breaks in the circuit to any of the throttle position sensors. The DTC does not cause limp-home or Check Engine.
- These breaks occur often in the circuit to potentiometer 2 and do not affect the running of the engine.
- In some cases, these breaks may occur in the circuit to potentiometer 1. The throttle may then close intermittently and cause irregular idling speed or jerky running, especially after driving for a long period with the same accelerator position. In this case, consult the customer to see whether the fault is serious enough to warrant changing the throttle body.
