Diagnostic Procedures
1. Checking Brake-Lights Functionality
- Check the brake lights.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 2
YES
Go To Step 3
2. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the fuse, lead and brake lights switch +SK.
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
3. Checking The Microswitch's And Solenoid's Power Supply And Grounding
Unplug the connector:
- H6-4
When done:
Go to step 4
4. Checking The Microswitch's And Solenoid's Power Supply And Grounding
When done:
Go to step 4
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 to pin 5 of the female connector and a good grounding point.
When done:
Go to step 5
5. Checking The Microswitch's And Solenoid's Power Supply And Grounding
- Depress the brake pedal
- The test lamp should light.
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 6
YES
Go To Step 7
6. Rectifying The Lead
Rectify the lead between H6-4 pin 5, crimp connection J61 and fuse 1 on the main fuse box in the dashboard.
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
7. Checking The Microswitch's And Solenoid's Power Supply And Grounding
- Connect a test lamp to battery positive (B+) and pin 6 of the female connector.
The lamp should light.
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 8
YES
Go To Step 9
8. Rectifying The Lead
Rectify the lead between H6-4 pin 6, crimp connection J44 and grounding point G42.
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
9. Changing Components
- Change the solenoid and microswitch
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
10. Final Check
- Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
Carry out a functionality test:
NO
Go To Step 11
YES
Go To Step 12
11. Final Check
See Before changing a control module, refer to General Fault Diagnosis.
- Diagnosis for this fault code is complete.
