Diagnostic Procedures
1. Checking The Engine Speed Sensor's Ground Connection
Unplug the connector
- Speed sensor, input shaft. gearbox (532)
When Disconnected:
Go To Step 2
2. Checking The Engine Speed Sensor's Ground Connection
Part 1 Of 2:
Part 2 Of 2:
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between B+ and pin 2 of the male connector.
- The test lamp should light.
Checking the Wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Go to step 8
4. Checking The Control Module's Input For Input rpm
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
When complete:
Go to step 5
5. Checking The Control Module's Input For Input rpm
Take a resistance reading between:
- Pin 1-Speed sensor, input shaft, gearbox
- Pin 2-Speed sensor, input shaft, gearbox
The reading should be 2 K-Ohm - 2.4 K-Ohm
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads ads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp of diagnostic tool while doing this.
