Diagnostic Procedures
1. Checking The Oil Temperature Sensor's Grounding
Unplug the connector.
- Transmission fluid temperature sensor (535)
When disconnected
Go To Step 2
2. Checking The Oil Temperature Sensor's Grounding
Part 1 Of 2:
Part 2 Of 2:
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between B+ and pin 2 of the male connector.
- The test lamp should light.
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 3
YES
Go To Step 4
3. Rectifying The Lead
Rectify the lead between pin 2, H16-4 pin 12, crimp connection J41 and grounding point G41S
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
4. Checking The Control Module's Oil Temperature Sensor Input With Open Circuit
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Contact TCM.
When connection is achieved:
Got To Step 5
5. Checking The Control Module's Oil Temperature Sensor Input With Open Circuit
Reading, Gearbox Fluid Temperature
The reading should be -55°C - -45°C
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 6
YES
Go To Step 7
6. Rectifying The Lead
Rectify the lead between TCM pin 6 and temperature sensor pin 1.
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
7. Checking The Control Module's Oil Temperature Sensor Input With Short Circuit
Connect a jumper lead between pins 1 and 2 of the male connector.
Reading, Gearbox Fluid Temperature
The reading should be 190°C - 210°C
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 8
YES
Go To Step 9
8. Rectifying The Lead
Rectify the lead between TCM pin 6 and temperature sensor pin 1.
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
9. Changing Components
- Change - Transmission fluid temperature sensor
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
10. Final Check
- Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
Carry out a drive cycle:
- Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
Evaluate the drive cycle,
- Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 11
YES
Go To Step 12
11. Final Check
See Before changing a control module, refer to General Fault Diagnosis.
- Diagnosis for this fault code is complete.
12. Final Check
The steps taken to correct the fault were correct.
- Diagnosis is complete.
