Cooling

Cooling (B235R)

The turbocharger is cooled by water which lowers the bearing housing temperature by about 100 °C (212°F). The lower temperature reduces the risk of carbonization and consequent damage. The liquid used for cooling is piped from a passage in the engine block. After passing the bearing housing the cooling liquid continues through a pipe to the thermostat housing. When the engine is switched off and the coolant pump stops pumping, the coolant in the system will continue to circulate through thermosiphon action.
