Standard Radio/Radio With RDS/RDS Radio Services
Radio
General
The radio in the audio system is an AM/FM receiver with PLL frequency synthesis for precise station tuning (frequency lock).
The radio is available with or without RDS. The RDS version of the radio is fitted to cars for the EU market. RDS is not used in other markets.
Function
The antenna signal for the radio is supplied from the antenna via a coaxial cable and separate connector (HF connector) to the main unit.
The radio is activated by the RADIO button on the main unit. When the radio is active, information is transmitted to the bus. The SID unit reads the information on the bus and shows the present setting on the display.
Control functions
1. Presets (1-6) for direct selection of preset radio stations.
2. Band, for selection of frequency band (AM/FM).
3. Manual tuning up/down in frequency band.
4. Automatic station search, up/down in frequency band.
5. Automatic search with storage (AS) of the 6 strongest radio stations on the AM or FM band.
6. RDS on/off.
IMPORTANT
Detailed information of audio system operation is given in the Owner's Manual.
Radio With RDS
General
RDS (Radio Data System) is an information system transmitted in Europe in parallel with the radio programmes on the FM band. The RDS system ensures that reception is always optimum, irrespective of your location. The RDS function automatically searches for the best transmitter.
Function
The RDS radio in audio systems 2 and 3 contains a double tuner. This improves the quality of RDS reception as one tuner is used solely to decode the RDS information and the other solely for reception of audio information. The change-over interruption on reception is therefore minimal and the frequency change is inaudible.
IMPORTANT
Detailed information of audio system operation is given in the Owner's Manual.
RDS Radio Services
General
As well as receiving FM broadcasts with RDS, the RDS radio also allows use of the following radio services:
- TA/TP - for traffic news
- PTY - for program type selection
- EON - for NF, TA, TP and RDS data on the nearest stations
- REG - for reception of local radio stations
TA/TP (Traffic Announcement/Traffic Program)
TA/TP is a function for receiving traffic news on RDS reception. The normal transmission/audio source is interrupted and the traffic news given.
The volume level for traffic news is programmable.
PTY (Program Type)
PTY is an RDS function for receiving programmes on the FM band that are coded by programme type. With PTY reception, the normal transmission/audio source is interrupted and the selected programme type heard.
EON (Enhanced Other Network)
EON ensures that the traffic news is received over station limits, i.e. if a traffic message is broadcast by one station and RDS reception of another station is in progress, the message will still be received.
EON is a function which automatically updates the current RDS station for best reception. This means that if for example RDS reception of a station is updated during a journey, other RDS stations will also be updated for best reception at the same time.
REG (Regional)
REG is a function which can be used to receive only a pre-programmed local radio station, i.e. to lock onto a local radio station without RDS changing the station due to better signal quality.
