Brake Light Switch. Open Circuit.
Fault symptoms
No fault symptoms.
Conditions
DTC will be generated if there is a break in circuit continuity for more than 1.0 s.
Diagnostic help
The diagnostic tool can be used to determine the status of the brake-light switch (Open/Closed).
- Select: "Read values".
- Select: "Brake-light switch".
Diagnostic procedure
1. Checking Brake Lights Functionality
^ Check that the brake lights come on when the pedal is depressed.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go To Step 2
YES
Go To Step 3
2. Checking Brake Lights Functionality
^ See fault diagnosis for the brake lights, refer to lighting and horns.
3. Rectifying The Lead
^ Repair or replace the lead between pin 14 of the control module and pin 3 of the brake lights switch.
When repair is complete
Go to step 4
4. Final Check
^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
^ Carry out a drive cycle
Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
^ Evaluate the drive cycle:
^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
YES
Go To Step 5
NO
Go To Step 6
5. Final Check
The steps taken to correct the fault were correct.
^ Diagnosis is complete.
