TC/ABS 5.3






Solenoid valves. Open Circuit
Fault symptoms
ABS, brakes and central warning lamps are on.
TCS OFF indicator lamp is on.
No ABS or TCS function.

Conditions
^ If there is no current supplied to three or more of the valves.
^ If the control module's internal voltage relay is defective.
^ No +30 power supply to the control module (pins 17 and 18).

Diagnostic help
The solenoid valves can be activated using the diagnostic tool.
- Select "Activate"
- Select: "Valves"

The respective valve can then be selected in the sub-menu. The selected valve is activated for about 30 seconds at a frequency of 1 Hz.
Diagnostic procedure
1. Checking the power supply





Unplug the connector
^ Control module, TC/ABS (547)

Go To Step 2

2. Checking the power supply

Take a voltage reading.
Between Pin 17 of connector and B+ (batt. positive)

The reading should be 0 V - 0.5 V

Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 3

YES
Go To Step 4

3. Rectifying The Lead





Repair or replace the lead between fuse 1 in the engine bay's electrical distribution box and pin 17 of the control module.

When repair is complete
Go To Step 6

4. Checking the power supply

Take a voltage reading.
Between Pin 18 of connector and B+ (batt. positive)

The reading should be 0 V - 0.5 V

Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 5

YES
Go To Step 6

5. Rectifying The Lead





Repair or replace the lead between fuse 1 in the engine bay's electrical distribution box and pin 18 of the control module.

When repair is complete
Go To Step 6

6. Final Check





^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.





Carry out a drive cycle
^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.

Evaluate the drive cycle:





^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 8

YES
Go To Step 7

7. Final Check
The steps taken to correct the fault were correct.
^ Diagnosis is complete.
