TC/ABS 5.3






Battery Voltage. Low
Fault symptoms
ABS, brakes and central warning lamps are on.
TCS OFF indicator lamp is on.
No ABS or TCS function.

Conditions
- Battery voltage <9V for more than 0.5 seconds.
- Wheel speeds above 6 km/h (3.7 mph).

Diagnostic procedure
1. Checking battery Condition





^ Check the condition of the battery.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 9

YES
Go To Step 2

2. Check The Control's Module Power Supply





Unplug the connector
^ Control module, ABS (547)





^ Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Go To Step 3

3. Check The Control's Module Power Supply
Take a voltage reading.

Part 1 Of 2:





Part 2 Of 2:





Between Connector pin 17 and B+ (batt. positive)

The reading should be 0 V - 0.5 V

Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 4

YES
Go To Step 5

4. Rectifying The Lead





^ Replace or repair the lead between fuse 1 in the engine bay's electrical distribution box and pin 17 of the control module.

When repair is complete:
Go To Step 10

5. Checking the control module power supply on pin 18
Take a voltage reading.

Between Connector pin 18 and B+ (batt. positive)

The reading should be 0 V - 0.5 V

Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 6

YES
Go To Step 7

6. Rectifying The Lead





^ Replace or repair the lead between fuse 1 in the electrical distribution box and pin 18 of the control module.

When repair is complete:
Go To Step 10

7. Checking the control module power supply on pin 15
Take a voltage reading.

Between Connector pin 15 and B+ (batt. positive)

The reading should be 0 V - 0.5 V

Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 8

YES
Go To Step 10

8. Rectifying The Lead





^ Replace or repair the lead between fuse 26 on the dashboard's main fuse board and pin 15 of the control module.

When repair is complete:
Go To Step 10

9. Checking Battery Condition
Rectify the fault

When repair is complete:
Go to step 10

10. Final Check





^ Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.





Carry out a drive cycle
^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.

Evaluate the drive cycle:





^ Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred

Is the function correct?

NO
Go To Step 12

YES
Go To Step 11

11. Final Check
The steps taken to correct the fault were correct.
^ Diagnosis is complete.
