Onstar Component Replacement - 9-5 Sedan:
VIU/VCUTo remove:
1 Remove the 4 screws securing the bracket to the underside of the rear shelf.
2 Release the snap-locks for the VIU or VCU module to remove it from the bracket.
3 Release the connector housing from the module.
To fit:
1 Refit the new module(s) in reverse order. Take up the slack in the wiring harness and tuck it behind the carpet,
NOTE:
Before fitting the new module(s), the serial number (VCU) or station ID (VIU) must be recorded and provided to the OnStar Call Center, at 1-888-ONSTAR1, prompt 1.
2 Reset the OnStar system by pressing and holding the Call End (white dot) button on the OnStar three-but- ton assembly. The LED will be green, turn red, then go back to green again.
3 Move the vehicle outside. Leave it running for ten minutes. Press the OnStar key and ask the advisor for a reconfiguration.
If you have trouble connecting to OnStar, configuring or activation on a Saab OnStar system, try the following:
^ Let the car run for 10 minutes, then press the blue OnStar Call Button. You should see the LED flashing green because a call is in progress. You will then hear connecting to OnStar. You may also hear a fast busy beep then dead air, and then a cell carrier message. The important thing is to allow enough time for the call to go through: at least 5 minutes. If OnStar requested ended is heard, then try the red emergency key next. Always write down what you hear after the keypress for the OnStar Technical Assistance Center consultant; this will help in diagnosis.
^ Check to make sure the coax cable is connected to the VCU and coupling box. Also make sure the coax cable is not nicked, cut, scraped or twisted above the headliner.
^ Next check the cell antenna installation. Make sure the cell antenna is mounted in the correction location. the antenna is above the vehicle roof line, the coupling box and cell antenna mount are lined up properly, and finally, there is not after-marketing window tint on the vehicle glass.
GPS Antenna
To remove:
1 Remove the 4 screws securing the bracket to the underside of the rear shelf.
2 Disconnect the GPS coax cable from the VIU module.
3 Remove the passenger side C-pillar trim.
4 Pull out the passenger side front and rear door seals from the area around the headliner.
5 Remove the passenger side sun visor.
6 Remove the overhead console and rear view mirror.
7 Mark the location of the current GPS antenna with tape or marker.
8 Carefully pry the antenna away from the glass and roof to release the glue.
9 remove the coax cable from beneath the edge of the headliner.
To fit:
1 Wipe the blackout area of the glass behind the rear view mirror with an alcohol wipe or spray bottle. (must be 70% alcohol/30% water.)
2 Using the marks you made in step 7 of removal, put the GPS antenna in position by tucking the gold ground strip under the headliner and any wiring.
3 When the glass is dry, remove the adhesive strip covers and secure the GPS antenna.
4 Secure the antenna ground to the roof by removing the adhesive back, overlapping the center mirror attachment. Do not cut the ground strap!
5 Route the coax cable along the front edge of the headliner to the A-pillar.
6 Refit the sunvisor (and foam tape on the connector) making sure not to pinch the coax cable with sunvisor attachments.
7 Re-route the coax cable along the edge of the headliner, through the C-pillar and back into the trunk. Secure the door seals as you go.
8 Secure the cable to the C-pillar with tape and refit the C-pillar trim.
9 Connect the coax cable to the VIU module.
10 Refit the 4 screws securing the bracket beneath the rear shelf.
