Coil Spring (Contact Roller)



WARNING

Before starting work.

To remove
1 Ignition switch in the OFF position.
2 Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.





3 Remove the airbag from the steering wheel, 2 screws and plugs.
4 Lift out the steering wheel airbag and unplug the connector
5 Remove the steering wheel center nut and lift off the steering wheel.





6 Remove the upper and lower steering column cowls, 3 screws
7 Undo the 2 screws securing the coil spring.
8 Detach the leads from the hook and unplug the connector.
9 Lift out the coil spring.

To fit
1 Open the transport safety catch on the coil spring.





2 Fit the coil spring in place and plug in the connector.
3 Tighten the 2 coil spring retaining screws.
4 Fit the upper and lower steering column cowls, 3 screws.
Adjust the center position of the coil spring, as follows:

a Make sure the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
b Turn the coil spring (contact roller) clockwise until stiff resistance is felt.
c Turn the coil spring (contact roller) back 2 whole turns plus the slight amount remaining until the electric leads point straight up

NOTE: The center position does not have to be set it a new contact roller is fitted. The roller is supplied already centered and secured with a transport lock. Remove the transport lock before fitting the steering wheel.

5 Check that the leads connected to the coil spring are not twisted.





6 Fit the steering wheel and tighten the steering wheel center nut.

Tightening torque: 39 N-m (28.8 ft. lbs.)

7 Plug in the horn's connector and that of the audio system, it fitted.
8 Plug in the airbag's electrical connector at the rear.
9 Fit the airbag in the steering wheel, 2 screws and plugs.
10 Turn on the ignition and check the SRS system and control module with the diagnostics tool as follows:
Connect the diagnostics instrument to the diagnostics socket under the dashboard. Delete any trouble codes.
Switch off the ignition and switch it on again. Wait at least 10 minutes with the ignition switched on.
Check whether a diagnostic trouble code is displayed:
Carry out fault diagnosis according to the instructions.
If a diagnostic trouble code is displayed:

If no diagnostic trouble code is displayed:
Fitting completed correctly. Disconnect the diagnostics instrument.
