Conditions

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit. Short to B+/Open circuit.

Fault symptoms
- CHECK ENGINE.
- A/C not working.
- Radiator fan runs continuously when ignition is ON.
- Temperature gauge reading incorrect.
- Possible misfiring before DTC is generated.

On-Board Diagnostics

Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.

Enable criteria:
- Engine running.

Fault criteria:
- Voltage higher than 4.910 V for more than 1 s.

Dependents:
- None.

System reaction to a fault:
- A substitute value is calculated continuously as follows: Starting intake air temperature is incremented with 1 °C per 60 g air mass/s. The value is maximized to 90 °C and is used as soon as fault criteria for the sensor are fulfilled.

OK report:
- P0116 Test 1 and Test 2 performed once and fault criteria not fulfilled. Fault criteria for P0117 or P0118 not fulfilled.

Fault handling: Fault Handling III, Other Emission-Related Comp. & Function
- Type III.

Diagnostic help
Fault diagnosis concerns electrical faults in connected leads or in the sensor.
