Speedometer Not Working










Speedometer Not Working

Fault symptoms
Speedometer reads 0 km/h.

Diagnostic help
The vehicle speed information can be read using the diagnostic instrument.

The speedometer can be activated with the diagnostic instrument.

Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic instrument while carrying out this check.

Diagnostic procedure

1. Checking ABS diagnostic trouble codes
^ Connect the diagnostic instrument to the car and contact ABS.
^ Obtain readouts of the diagnostic trouble codes from: ABS





Are there any ABS diagnostic trouble codes?
YES

^ Continue with fault diagnosis of the ABS.
NO
^ Go to step 2.

2. Checking speed information from ABS
^ Drive the car and read oft the speed on the diagnostic tool.

Speedometer:





Is the value reasonable?
YES

^ Go to step 5
NO
^ Go to step 3.

3. Checking speed value from ABS
^ Unplug the connector, H43-1





^ Extract pin 16 from the male connector.





^ Plug in the connector.





^ Connect a test lamp to B+ and pin 16.





^ Lift the rear of the car.





^ Turn the ignition switch to ON.





^ Rotate the left rear wheel.





^ The test lamp should flash.





Is the function correct?
YES

^ Go to step 4.
NO
^ Check the lead and repair or replace it as necessary.
^ Go to step 5.

4. Checking, vehicle speed signal
^ Unplug the main instrument unit's 12-pin connector: (540)





^ Connect a test lamp to pin 10 of MIU K12 and a good ground.





^ Rotate the left rear wheel.





^ The test lamp should flash.





Is the function correct?
YES

^ Go to step 5.
NO
^ Check the lead and repair or replace it as necessary.
^ Go to step 5.

5. Final check
^ Clear diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.





^ Carry out a function check.

Speedometer:





Is the function correct?
YES

^ The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
NO
