Absorbent For Preventing Head Injuries
When replacing interior equipment, special notice must be given to the absorbents used to take up the forces from possible impact with the passenger's/driver's head. These absorbents are mounted between the trim and the body and are designed depending on their location. It is essential that the absorbent and the trim are both intact and correctly fitted in the car so that the correct level of protection is attained.
Procedure for crash repairs
The following rules apply when repairing a crashed car.
- If there was a passenger in the rear seat, all the absorbents must be replaced.
- If there was only a passenger in the front seat, the front absorbents up to and including the B-pillar must be replaced.
- All the absorbents must be replaced if there is damage to the roof or pillars.
- If in doubt, replace all the absorbents.
- Replace any trim or absorbents that have visible damage.
