Recall 720: Cracking evap/turbo hose
Background
The quality of the material used for the elbow hose, fitted to the evacuation line by the turbo, is insufficient for the high surrounding temperature and can harden and crack. A new hose material has been introduced as of VIN Y2018486 and Y7006098 respectively.
Symptom
Reduced driveability and canister purge efficiency.
Cars affected
Saab 9-3 M00 within the following VIN Serial No. Ranges:
Y2000001 - Y2018486 (3D/5D exduding Viggen)
Y7000001 - Y7006098 (All CV, 3D/5D Viggen)
Owner Notification
As much as possible, owners of affected vehicles will be notified by Saab Cars USA, Inc. (together with Recall 719).
A VIN Status List will be supplied to you prior to any owner notification. If you do not receive a Status List, this is an indication that no affected vehicles have been sold to/by your dealership.

Procedure
1 Undo the lower hose clamp on the elbow hose.
2 Remove the elbow hose from the APC valve T-piece. Be careful not to damage the T-piece. If necessary replace the T-piece, (part no. 91 94 069).
3 Pull up the evacuation line.
4 Undo and slide up the upper hose clamp on the elbow hose. (The illustrations shows elbow hose 53 30 477 with the old part number and punch mark).
5 Note the orientation of the elbow hose. Remove the elbow hose.
6 Transfer the lower hose clamp to the new elbow hose. Position the hose clip 2-3 mm from the end of the hose.
7 Fit the new elbow hose to the evacuation line. Make sure that the elbow hose is oriented as the old hose.
8 Slide the upper hose clamp down onto the elbow hose. Position the hose clamp 2-3 mm from the end of the hose.
9 Pull the evacuation line down between the turbo intake manifold and the hose to the A/C system's expansion tank.
10 Fit the elbow hose to the T-piece.
Stamping the campaign plate
After the car has been inspected and/or modified, mark the campaign plate in box A1, using a numeral "8" (Saab Special Tool P/N 02 97 713). If needed, order this special tool directly from Kent-Moore at 1-800-345-2233.
