Checking Engine Torque
Checking Engine Torque
It is not easy to say how much knocking can be permitted as this will depend on the circumstances. The tendency to knock is increased by the following factors: low octane rating, high coolant temperature, high outside temperature, high altitude, and high engine load.
The fact that knock control reduces engine torque by less than 15% is considered normal under ordinary operating conditions.
- Drive the car at wide open throttle. With a manual gearbox, engage 2nd gear or higher.
- Driving uphill is recommended.
- Obtain the following readout with the diagnostic tool:
Engine Torque Used at Actual RPM
When engine speed exceeds 2000 rpm, the value should stabilize at above 85%.
Is the function correct?
NO - Checking Heavy Knock Control
YES - Final Check
