Checking The Switch's Grounding
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Unplug the connector
- Switch, PSM, passenger (357P)
- Connect a test lamp to B+ and pin 10 of the female connector.
- The test lamp should light.
Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO - Rectifying the Lead - I
YES - Continue with Checking The Switch's Grounding
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 to pins 9 and 10 of the female connector.
- The test lamp should light.
Checking the wiring harness
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO - Continue with Checking The Switch's Grounding
YES - Check that the seat motors are supplied with current and that the switch is working. Also check the wiring harness, connectors and ground connection. Repair any faults.
- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 1 (30) of the relay holder and a good grounding point.
- The test lamp should light.

Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO - Rectifying the Lead - II
YES - Continue with Checking The Switch's Grounding
- Connect the jumper lead between pins 2 and 1 of the relay holder.
- Connect a test lamp to pin 9 of the female connector and a grounding point.
- The test lamp should light.

NO - Rectifying the Lead - III
YES - Changing Components
