Diagnostic Procedures

1. Checking Control Module Outputs To Solenoid 1-2 and 3-4 (S1)





Unplug the connector H16-3

Go to step 2

2. Checking Control Module Outputs To Solenoid 1-2 and 3-4 (S1)

Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 1 of the connector to the control module and a good grounding point.





Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Go to step 3

3. Checking Control Module Outputs To Solenoid 1-2 and 3-4 (S1)





Contact TCM.

Activate: Solenoid 1-2 and 3-4 (S1) ON





The test lamp should light.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 4

YES
Go to step 5

4. Rectifying The Lead

Repair of replace the lead between pin 19 of the control module and pin 1 of the connector.

When repair is complete
Go to step 12

5. Checking The Wiring Harness

Check to see whether there is external damage to the wiring harness from H16-3 to the bushing in to the gear box.

Are the leads free from faults?

NO
Go to step 6

YES
Go to step 7

6. Rectifying The Fault

Repair the damage

When repair is complete
Go to step 12

7. Checking The Lead





Plug in the connector H16-3





Remove the cover to the valve body, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Transmission Pan.

Unplug the connector:
Solenoid valve 1-2 and 3-4 (531 (S1))

Go to step 8

8. Checking The Lead

Connect a test lamp to pin 4 of the female connector and a grounding point.





Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Go to step 9

9. Checking The Lead





Contact TCM.

Activate Solenoid 1-2 and 3-4 (S1) ON





The test lamp should light.

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step 10

YES
Go to step 11

10. Rectifying The Lead

Repair or replace the lead between pin 4 of the female connector and pin 1 of the connector.

When repair is complete
Go to step 12

11. Changing Components





Change Solenoid valve 1-2 and 3-4

When repair is complete
Go to step 12

12. Final Check





Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.

Carry out a drive cycle'.
Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.

Evaluate the drive cycle.





Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred

Is the function correct?

NO
Go to step

YES
Go to step

13. Final Check

The diagnosis procedure for this fault code is complete
Refer to Procedures, Before Changing A Control Module.

14. Final Check

The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
The diagnosis procedure is complete
