Diagnostic Procedures
1. Checking Control Module Output To The Lock-Up SolenoidUnplug the connector H16-3
2. Checking Control Module Output To The Lock-Up Solenoid

Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 10 of the connector to the control module and a good grounding point.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
3. Checking Control Module Output To The Lock-Up Solenoid
Contact TCM.
Activate Solenoid Lock Up (SL) (ON)
The test lamp should light.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 4
YES
Go to step 5
4. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead between pin 2 of the control module and pin 10 of the connector.
When repair is complete
Go to step 13
5. Checking The Wiring Harness
Check to see whether there is external damage to the wiring harness from H16-3 to the bushing in to the gear box.
Are the leads free from faults?
NO
Go to step 6
YES
Go to step 7
6. Rectifying The Lead
Repair the damage.
When repair is complete
Go to step 13
7. Checking The Lead
Plug in the connector H16-3
Go to step 8
8. Checking The Lead
Remove the cover to the valve body, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Transmission Pan
Unplug the connector for Solenoid valve, LOCK UP (531 (SL))
Go to step 9
9. Checking The Lead
Connect test lamp 86 11 857 to pin 5 of the female connector and a good grounding point.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Go to step 10
10. Checking The Lead
Contact TCM.
Activate, Solenoid Lock Up (SL) (ON)
The test lamp should light.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 11
YES
Go to step 12
11. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead between pin 5 of the female connector and pin 10 of the connector.
Go to step 13
12. Changing Components
Change Solenoid valves, TCM
After repair is complete
Go to step 13
13. Final Check
Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
Carry out a drive cycle:
Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
Evaluate the drive cycle.
Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step
YES
Go to step
14. Final Check
Diagnosis of this fault code is complete.
Refer to Procedures, Before Changing A Control Module..
15. Final Check
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
