Diagnostic Procedure
1. Select The SystemSelect the type of engine management system the car is fitted with
MOTRONIC
Go to step 2
TRIONIC
Go to step 5
2. Checking Control Module Input
Unplug the connector
Control module, TCM (502)
Go to step 3
3. Checking Control Module Input

Connect a test lamp to pin 9 of the female connector and a grounding point.
Crank the starter motor for 10 seconds.
The test lamp should flash.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 4
YES
Go to step 8
4. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead between pin 9 of the transmission control module and pin 6 of the Motronic control module.
When repair is complete
Go to step 8
5. Checking Control Module Input
Unplug the connector
Control module, TCM (502)
Go to step 6
6. Checking Control Module Input

Connect a test lamp to pin 58 of the transmission control module and pin 6 of the TRIONIC control module.
Crank the starter motor for 10 seconds.
The test lamp should flash.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 7
YES
Go to step 8
7. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead between pin 58 of the transmission control module and pin 6 of the TRIONIC control module.
When repair is complete
Go to step 8
8. Final Check
Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
Carry out a drive cycle.
- Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
Evaluate the drive cycle
Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 9
YES
Go to step 10
9. Final Check
The diagnosis for this fault code is complete

10. Final Check
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
