Diagnostic Procedure
1. Checking Control Module Input With Open CircuitUnplug the connector
Transmission fluid temperature sensor (535)
Go to step 2
2. Checking Control Module Input With Open Circuit
Part 1 Of 2:
Part 2 Of 2:
Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between B+ and pin 2 of the male connector.
The test lamp should light.
Checking the Wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to several intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 3
YES
Go to step 4
3. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the faulty lead.
4. Checking Control Module Input With Open Circuit
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Contact TCM.
Reading, Gearbox Fluid Temperature
The reading should be -55°C to -45°C
Checking the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and in different directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 5
YES
Go to step 6
5. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead between pin 6 of the control module and pin 1 of the sensor.
6. Checking Control Module Input With Open Circuit
Connect a jumper lead between pins 1 and 2 of the male connector.
Go to step 7
7. Checking Control Module Input With Open Circuit
Reading Gearbox Fluid Temperature
The reading should be 190°C to 210°C
Check the wiring harness.
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at several places and indifferent directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short circuits in the wiring harness. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step 8
YES
Go to step 9
8. Rectifying The Lead
Repair or replace the lead between pin 6 of the control module and pin 1 of the sensor.
9. Changing Components
Change - Transmission fluid temperature sensor
When repair is complete:
Go to step 10
10. Final Check
Clear the diagnostic trouble codes in all systems.
Carry out a drive cycle
Drive the car at varying engine loads and engine rpm for five minutes.
Evaluate the drive cycle.
Check that the diagnostic trouble code has not recurred
Is the function correct?
NO
Go to step
YES
Go to step 11
11. Final Check
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
The diagnosis procedure is complete

Diagnosis procedure is complete for this fault code.
