Fault Conditions

Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit. Performance Problem.







Fault symptoms
- CHECK ENGINE.
- Misfiring can occur before trouble code is generated.
- The engine will not start with permanent fault.

On-Board Diagnostics
Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.

Enable criteria:
- General condition for this diagnostic trouble code: Atmospheric pressure must exceed 72 kPa as well as coolant and intake air temperature must exceed -7 °C.
- Engine running for at least 3 sec. Brake pedal not depressed. Vehicle speed exceeding 30 km/h. Coolant temperature exceeding 60 °C.

Fault criteria:
- Crankshaft position is lost. The criteria must be met on two separate occasions during a period of 10 minutes.

Dependents:
- P1576, P1577, P0501 and P0502.

System reaction to a fault:
- None.

OK report:
- Enable criteria fulfilled. Fault criteria not fulfilled within 60 s.

Fault handling: Fault Handling III, Other Emission-Related Component & Function
- Type III.

Diagnostic help
Fault diagnosis concerns an electrical fault in connecting leads or in the sensor.
Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:
- Diagnostic status for the diagnosis.
- Engine speed, unit rpm.

Checking the wiring
Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short circuits. Observe the multimeter, diagnostic tool or test lamp during the check.
