Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair
Handbrake lever
To remove
1. Raise the car.
2. Remove the return springs from the levers on the right and left sides.
3. Press out the rear locating sleeve from the holders on the right and left sides.
4. Press out the front locating sleeve from the holder on the right side.
5. Remove the cable from the levers.
6. Remove the nuts from the heat shield plate in front of the tank.
7. Remove the adjusting nut from the pull rod and move aside the cable adjuster. Measure the thread length on the pull rod.
8. Remove the rubber gaiter.
9. Lower the car and remove the driver's seat and the center console, see Body and Frame.
10. Remove the two retaining screws for the handbrake lever as well as the cable terminal for the handbrake switch. Lift out the handbrake.
To fit
1. Fit the cable terminal to the handbrake switch.
2. Fit the handbrake lever and tighten the two retaining screws.
3. Fit the center console and the driver's seat, see Body and Frame.
4. Raise the car and fit the rubber gaiter as well as the pull rod.
Fit the cable adjuster to the pull rod, and fit the adjusting nut to the measured thread length.
5. Fit the cable to the levers.
6. Fit the front locating sleeve to the holder on the right side.
7. Fit the rear locating sleeves.
8. Fit the returns springs for the levers.
9. Fit the heat shield plate.
10. Lower the car and check the handbrake function.
