Antilock Brakes


Bleeding the brake system





1. Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid reservoir and top up with brake fluid. Insert the filler funnel (supplied with brake bleeding kit 88 19 096.
2. Place one end of a hose in the filler funnel and the other end in a bottle filled with fresh brake fluid.
3. Raise the car. Connect the bleeder unit hose to the front left wheel and open the nipple. Drain off about 0.1 liters of brake fluid.
4. Tighten the nipple, fit the rubber plug and transfer the bleeder unit to the rear right wheel. Unscrew the nipple and drain off approximately 0.05 liters of fluid.
5. Tighten the nipple, fit the rubber plug and transfer the bleeder unit to the front right wheel. Unscrew the nipple and drain off approximately 0.1 liters of fluid.
6. Tighten the nipple, fit the rubber plug and transfer the bleeder unit to the rear left wheel. Unscrew the nipple and drain off approximately 0.05 liters of fluid.
7. Tighten the nipple, fit the rubber plug and lower the car to the floor.
8. Check the operation of the brakes. Depress the brake pedal and check that it does not feel spongy or go all the way down to the floor.
9. Remove the filler funnel, hose and bottle.
10. Adjust the brake fluid level.
