Procedure
Replace the shift lock solenoid using the following procedure:1 Remove the center console.
a Remove the trim ring from around the PRNDL plate.
b Carefully remove the storage compartment or ashtray with holder using a screwdriver.
C Remove the gear lever cover, 2 screws. See point 3. (Note: picture indicates manual shifter but is included to show points 3, 4 and 5.)
d Unplug the connector for the central locking system switch. See point 4.
e Lift out the gear lever cover and unplug the connector for the switches to the seat heaters and cigarette lighter. See point 5.
f Remove the rear part of the center console by lifting it straight up and unplugging the connector. See point 6.
g Select Park (P) and remove the key.
h Rotate and lift up the theft protection antenna unit (bayonet fitting) from the ignition switch and unplug the connector. See point 6.
Insert the key and select neutral.
i Disconnect the switch for the electric window lifts and unplug the connectors. See point 9.
j Remove the screws holding the upper part of the center console, 6 screws. See point 10.
k Lift out the upper part of the center console.
l Fold back the carpets and remove the front screws, 2 pieces See point 11.
m Remove the rear screws, 2 pieces. See point 12.
n Remove the remote receiver antenna at the back of the console. Note the routing of the wiring harness.
o Lift and remove the center console. See point 13.
2 Remove the selector lever housing.
a Remove the air duct to the rear air vent.
b Remove the E-circlip and the anti-rattle clip. See point 2.
c Drive out the pin while removing the end of the cable from the ball. See point 3.
d Remove the screws securing the gear lever housing. See point 4.
e Unplug the selector lever housing's connector. See point 5.
f Lift up the selector lever housing.
Undo the cable tie securing the wiring harness for the ignition switch and airbag.
Unplug the connection from the ignition switch. See point 6.
g Remove the clamp located beside the locking catches. See point 7.
h Carefully press the catches securing the cable ferrule towards each other and remove the cable from the bracket; See point 8.
i Lift out the gear lever housing. See point 9.
3 Remove the shift lock solenoid.
Important
When working on a dismantled selector lever housing, be sure to protect it from damage by laying it on a soft surface, such as a clean shop rag or a piece of loam rubber.
a Cut the cable ties. See point 2.
b Remove the solenoid's pins from the connectors. See point 3.
Note
Note the location of the 3 pins in the connectors.
c Drill out the rivets securing the top and bottom parts of the gear selector housing with a 3 mm drill bit. (You will not be refitting these rivets as they are only required for transporting this assembly to the production line.) See point 4.
d With the shifter in neutral, separate the upper and lower pans of the selector lever housing. Separate it far enough to undo the screws by the solenoid. See point 5.
e Detach the lever at the top of the solenoid and remove the solenoid. See point 6.
4 Replace the shift-lock solenoid with a new one.
a Reattach the lever at the top of the solenoid. See point 6.
b Fit the solenoid's two screws. See point 2.
o Fit the two parts of the selector lever housing together.
d Connect the solenoid leads.
e Reinstall the cable ties.
5 Fit the selector lever housing.
a Fit the selector lever housing in place. See point 1.
b Connect the cable to the selector lever housing and fit the clamp. See point 2.
c Plug the connector into the ignition switch and fit the selector lever housing in place at the same time.
d Plug in the selector lever housing's connector and refit the 2 cable ties on the wiring harness.
e Tap in the pin at the same time as the ball enters the end of the cable. See point 5.
f Fit the E-circlip and anti-raffle clip. See point 6.
g Connect the air duct and tighten the selector lever housing, 6 screws. See point 3.
h Check the adjustment of the selector cable.
6 Refit the center console.
a Lift the center console into place. See point 1.
NOTE
Check that no contacts or wires have been pinched.
b Refit the remote receiver antenna at the back of the console, taking care to route the wire in the original position.
c Screw on the center console front and back, 4 screws.
Start with the one at the front left which is used as a guide. See point 2.
d Refit the carpets.
e Lift the upper part of the center console backward. At the same time, carefully guide the wires into place and clip the handbrake gaiter into place. See point 4.
Be careful with the lead for the anti-theft protection system.
f Screw the upper part of the center console in place, 6 screws. See point 5.
g Refit the switch for the electric window lifts. See point 6.
h Reconnect the connectors on the back of the center console and refit the rear part. See point 7.
i Reconnect the central locking system connector. See point 8.
j Plug in the connectors to the switches for the seat heaters and cigarette lighter. See point 9.
k Refit the gear lever cover, 2 clips at the back and 2 screws at the front. See point 10.
l Refit the storage compartment or ashtray with holder.
m Refit the trim around the PRNDL plate.
n Select P (PARK) and remove the key.
o Plug in the connector the theft-protection antenna unit and fit it (bayonet fitting). See point 14.
