Airbag System Warning Lamp

Background
When the ignition key has been turned to the ON position, the airbag control module performs self-diagnosis. This diagnosis is performed for as long as the key is in the ON position. 41 diagnostic trouble codes cover all sensors, wiring harnesses, airbags, seat-belt tensioners and internal control module faults. If a fault is detected the "AIRBAG" warning lamp will light.

Procedure
If the "AIRBAG" warning lamp comes on, it is essential to read and diagnose all diagnostic trouble codes before they are deleted, using Tech 2. With regard to repair methods, see SI 850-2076, 850-2077 and 850-2108.

If DTC B1605 (internal control module fault) or another code for shorting to ground is displayed, the diagnostic trouble code must not be erased without first rectifying the cause of the fault.

IMPORTANT: If fault code 1605 is displayed and no fault is found, the control module must be replaced.
