Main Beam
Main Beam
Main beam is activated by pressing the dipswitch on the steering column when the light switch is in position 2 and the ignition is in position ON (+15 or +54), after which the power supply to the main beam lamps is controlled by DICE.
With the main beam on, both the main and dipped beam lamps are on.
+X voltage is fed from terminal 11 on the light switch to pin 15 of the control module. After pressing the dipswitch, the main/dipped beam relay is grounded via pin 11 of the control module.
The relay operates and +30 voltage is then fed through the relay via the filament monitor and on to:
^ fuse 8 and the RH main beam lamp
^ fuse 10 and the LH main beam lamp
Filament monitor
The filament monitor is located in the engine bay (relay box). It detects any breaks in the circuit to the dipped beam lamps by measuring the current in the circuit. In the event of an open circuit, the filament monitor pin 9 grounds pin 23 of the SID unit. SID displays the message "Front light failure."
Headlamp Flasher
The headlamp flasher can be activated with the dipswitch whatever the position of the light switch. By moving the dipswitch to its "spring loaded" position, the main beam lamps will be powered with +30 via the filament monitor and main beam fuses. When the main beam is on, an indicator lamp in the main instrument unit is also on.
The indicator lamp is powered via fuse 10, the same as the LH main beam lamp.
