Coolant Level Sensor Replacement
WARNING: Be careful if the car is warm. The coolant is hot and there is a risk of burns from the intake manifold.
To Remove
1 Open the expansion tank cap to release the pressure. Close the cap.
2 Remove the cover (1 screw).
3 Disconnect the negative and positive cables from the battery.
4 Remove the battery (1 nut).
5 Undo the expansion tank attachment on the MacPherson strut (1 clip).
6 Tilt the tank forwards. Unplug the expansion tank level sensor's connector.
7 Remove the clip securing the relay box wiring harness on the battery holder.
8 Lift the expansion tank. Pull the lower hose through the wiring harness.
9 Clamp the hoses connected to the expansion tank using pinch-off pliers.
10 Tilt the expansion tank forwards and drain the coolant into a suitable receptacle.
11 Undo the hose clips on the hoses.
12 Lift out the expansion tank.
To Fit
NOTE: Spray the connector with Kontakt 61, part no.30 04 520.
1 Fit in reverse order.
2 Fill with coolant.
3 Start the engine and run it with the heater controls on full.
4 Check the coolant level and freezing point. If necessary top up with more coolant.
5 Raise the car.
6 Fit the lower front cover.
