Loose Loudspeaker Grille On Dashboard

Cars affected
Saab 9-5 RHD up to and including VIN W3088000.

Background

The steel clip on the grille does not fit into the hole in the dashboard. Instead, it will fasten to the foam surface of the dashboard and can come loose after a time. This can result in the grille not being securely fastened to the dashboard, causing rattling and a bad fit between the grille and the dashboard. This problem has been most prominent on the passenger side of RHD cars.

Procedure
Enlarge the existing hole in the dashboard with a scalpel.

Dismantling loudspeaker grille on passenger side

1. Remove the cover from the end of the dashboard.
2. Place a plastic spatula under the loudspeaker grille.
3. Insert one hand through the hole in the end of the dashboard and remove the clip. Lift the loudspeaker grille with the spatula at the same time.
4. Cut around the hole (plastic (lining) and foam plastic only) as illustrated.
5. Refit all parts.
6. Check the fit of the grille.
