Amplifier: Description and Operation

Amplifier

The Premium and Prestige audio Systems contain separate amplifier units which supply the speakers in the systems. The amplifier is connected to the wiring harness via a 39-pin connector.

Function
- The amplifier unit is powered separately (+30 circuit) from fuse 13 to pin 1 and pin 2 of the amplifier connector.
When the audio system is activated, the trigger voltage is also supplied from pin 7 of the main unit to pin 12 of the amplifier connector. The trigger voltage alerts the amplifier which is then activated (turned on).
- Audio - the input signal (4 channels) is supplied from the main unit line outputs to the amplifier. 2 channels are used for the front speaker and 2 for the rear (fader function).
- Audio Premium - the output signal (6 + 1 channels) from the amplifier to the front and rear speakers.
- Audio Prestige - the output signal (8 + 1 channels) from the amplifier to the front and rear speakers.
- Mute control - powered from pin 5 of the main unit to pin 11 of the amplifier connector to switch off the sound when the ignition is turned off/on to avoid clicks from the speakers.
