Fault Conditions
P1532
Pedal Position Sensor 1 and 2 Circuit. Control Module Inputs Shorted to Each other.
Fault symptoms
- Engine speed limited to 2200 rpm.
- CHECK ENGINE.
- Idling speed incorrect.
- Cruise control not working.
On-Board Diagnostics
Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and does not restart until next driving cycle.
Enable conditions:
- Ignition in ON position.
Fault criteria:
- Pulses from control module input for pedal position sensor 2 detected on control module input for pedal position sensor 1.
Dependents:
- None.
System reaction to a fault:
- Fuel shut-off at engine speed 2200 mm. Throttle control put in limp-home mode. Limp-home solenoid will activate 5 times in succession each time ignition turned on until the fault is repaired and diagnostic trouble codes are cleared.
OK report:
- Accelerator pedal has been depressed at some time and then fully released. 120 S has expired since then without fault criter being fulfilled.
Fault handling: See "Fault diagnosis, general" for more information.
- CHECK ENGINE goes on immediately and can be turned off only by clearing the trouble codes.
Diagnostic help
Fault diagnosis concerns electrical fault in connecting leads or in one of the sensors.
Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:
- Pedal Position Sensor 1, unit V.
- Pedal Position Sensor 2, unit V.
See also the description of readings in "Fault diagnosis, general" for more information.
Checking the wiring
Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short circuits. Observe the multimeter, diagnostic tool or test lamp during the check.
