Fault Conditions
P1240
Throttle Motor Circuit. Shorted.
Fault symptoms
- CHECK ENGINE.
- Engine runs unevenly.
- Cruise control inoperative.
On-Board Diagnostics
Type of diagnosis:
- Continuous. But interrupted when fault criteria fulfilled and will not restart until next driving cycle.
Enable criteria:
- Ignition in ON position.
Fault criteria:
- Motor current exceeding 8A during the positive or negative section of the PWM period. Criteria fulfilled for 3 mm.
Dependents:
- None.
System reaction to a fault:
- Cruise control is blocked.
OK report:
- Accelerator pedal has been depressed at some time and then fully released. 120s has expired since then without fault criter being fulfilled.

Diagnostic help
This DTC is generated when the lead from control module pin 48 is shorted to B+.
Diagnostic tool functions related to this fault are:
- Activation of output for throttle motor.

Check the wiring
Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuit in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool while doing this.
