Tape Player: Description and Operation

Cassette Player

The cassette player in the Saab Audio System is front-feed. The mechanical functions are totally microprocessor-controlled and in the rest position (when no tape is played) the heads are withdrawn to avoid stressing the mechanism and the tape. The tape player detects the tape type and automatically switches between normal and chrome/metallic tape. The time for cleaning the playback heads is shown automatically on the SID unit after 30 hours of use.

Function
The cassette player is activated using the TAPE button on the main unit when a tape is in place or inserted.

When the cassette player is active, information is transmitted to the bus. The SID unit reads the information on the bus and shows the current setting on the display.

Control functions
1 Playing pre-recorded cassettes.
2 Playback direction, manual/auto reverse.
3 Fast forward/rewind.
4 Track search, forward/back
5 Dolby B/C noise reduction, on/off
6 Cassette eject

Important
This Service Manual does not cover the normal operation of the audio system. Detailed information on its operation is given in the Owner's Manual.
