Sealing Ring, Selector Rod


In-car removal





1. Wash the gearbox beside the gear selector shaft, engage 4th gear and fit locking pin 87 92 335
2. Undo the M8 screw on the selector rod and move the gear lever to 3rd.





3. Pry out the seal using a narrow screwdriver.

IMPORTANT: Do not damage the sealing surface on the selector rod.

In-car fitting
1. Clean the selector rod and check that it has no burrs.





2. Wind a layer of thin, smooth plastic tape around the hole in the selector rod.
3. Fill the seal ring with grease and fit the seal on the selector rod. Remove the tape and tap in the seal with assembly tool 87 90 685 and clamp 87 91 709 Tap only so far that the seal is level with the clutch housing.





4. Join the selector rods using the Me screw.
5. Check the oil level in the gearbox and top up if needed. Use assembly tool 87 92 590.
