Intermediate Shaft


To remove
1. (Not Diesel) Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the drive shaft on the right-hand side.
3. (Not Diesel) Remove the bottom generator bolt.
4. (Not Diesel) Angle out the generator slightly.





5. Unscrew the support bearing bracket bolts.

IMPORTANT: Place a vessel under the gearbox as oil is going to run out.

6. Angle the support bearing bracket away from the locating studs in the block and pull out the intermediate shaft from the gearbox.
7. Remove the circlip from the drive shaft.
8. Press the shaft out of the support bearing brackets using Assembly kit, support bearing brackets 89 96 787





9. Remove the larger circlip securing the bearing in the bearing bracket.
10. Press the bearing out of the housing using Sleeve, drive shaft bearing 87 91 311 and Support, support bearing bracket bearing 87 92 236.

To fit





1. Fit the new bearing in the support bearing bracket. Use drift 83 90 122, sleeve 8791 311 and bearing race sleeve 9087 461.
2. Fit the larger circlip.
3. Press the shaft into the support bearing bracket using sleeve 87 90 461 and fitting kit 89 96 787.
4. Fit the circlip.
5. Fit the support bearing bracket and intermediate shaft in the correct position in the body. Fit protective collar83 95 162 in the gearbox shaft seal to protect the seal when the shaft is fitted. Always change the shaft seal. Lubricate with gearbox oil.

IMPORTANT: Fit the drive shaft in the gearbox until approximately 20 mm remain and pull out the tool before the shaft sealing surface reaches the shaft seal.

6. Fit the support bearing bracket on its locating studs.
7. Fit the bolts and tighten them.
8. (Not Diesel) Replace the generator, fit the bolt and tighten it.





9. Fit the drive shaft.
10. (Not Diesel) Reconnect the negative cable on the battery.
11. Top up with gearbox oil.
