To Fit, Left-Hand
Important: Always fit a new hub centre nut after it has been removed, as the locking function of the nut is reduced when it is refitted.
1. Place the inner universal joint in the mounting to the gearbox. Fit 83 95 162 Protective collar, drive shafts in the shaft seal in the gearbox to protect the seal when the gearbox is mounted. Always replace the shaft seal. Lubricate with gearbox oil.
Important: Fit the drive shaft in the gearbox until approximately 20 mm remain and pull out the tool before the shaft sealing surface reaches the shaft seal.
Tap carefully with a rubber mallet on the outer universal joint to secure the drive shaft.
2. Angle out the suspension strut and place the drive shaft into the hub.
3. Lift the link arm and place the ball joint bolt into the steering knuckle housing. Tighten the bolt.
Tightening torque: 75 Nm (55.4 ft. lbs.)
4. Fit the bush, washer and nut on the anti-roll bar.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.4 ft. lbs.)
5. Fit the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts.
Tightening torque 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.)
6. Lower the car to the floor.
Fit and tighten the hub centre nut to torque.
Warning: Always fit a new hub-centre nut if it has been revved because the clamping force of the lock indentations will be reduced if the old one is refitted. Use a nut with top groove.
Tightening torque, nut with top groove 170 Nm (125 ft. lbs.) + 45°
Tightening torque, nut without top groove 290 Nm (214 ft. lbs.)
7. Fit the hub cap.
8. Top up gearbox oil, see specifications.
