Shift Interlock: Testing and Inspection
Shift-lock Function
Fault symptoms
Selector lever locked in position P although the ignition is switched on and the brake pedal depressed.
Diagnostic help
First check that the mechanical interlock functions
(key lock and shift-lock) are in working order.
Diagnostic procedure
1 Check the operation of the brake lights.
- Check whether the brake lights are in working order.
All OK?
YES
Continue with step 2.
NO
Repair or replace the relevant fuse, wiring or brake lights switch. Continue with step 3, final check.
2 Check that the microswitch and solenoid are supplied with current and properly grounded.
- Unplug connector H6-8.
- Connect a test lamp to pin 5 of female connector H6-8 and a good grounding point.
- Depress the brake pedal.
The lamp should light up.
- Connect a test lamp to battery positive (B+) and pin 6 of female connector H6-8.
The lamp should light up.
All OK?
YES
Change the solenoid and microswitch. Continue with step 3, final check.
NO
Repair or replace the appropriate lead. Continue with step 3, final check.
3 Final check
- Clear any diagnostic trouble codes.
- Perform a check of functionality.
All OK?
YES
The steps taken to rectify the fault were correct.
NO
Change the control module.
