Output Shaft Speed Sensor (533)

Component Diagram:

Circuit Diagram:

Output Shaft Speed Sensor
The output shaft speed sensor is mounted in the transmission casing. It provides the control module with information on the speed of the transmission's output shaft on pin 15. The sensor is grounded via pin 30.

The sensor is electromagnetic (inductive) and measures the output speed when it is affected by a toothed wheel (parking lock ring gear). The control module uses the frequency to calculate the output speech. The voltage of the sensor increases with the engine speed. At 30 km/h the voltage is 1.1 VAC and 110 Hz measured across both sensor pins.

The resistance across the pins is 300 - 600 ohms.

The control module uses the gearbox input speed and the speed of the car to calculate when to change gear.

Engine speed and road speed affect the engine torque, which results in smoother gear changing. This information is also used to activate Lock Up.

Diagnostics
If the output speed is absent, diagnostic trouble code P0722 will be generated.

The TCM goes into Limp-Home mode.
