Checking For A Short-Circuit to Ground
1 Hold the ohmmeter leads in contact with each other and adjust the instrument until a reading of 0 ohm is obtained.
2 Disconnect the load and the negative battery cable.
3 Connect one of the ohmmeter leads to the pin of the short-circuited cable.
4 Connect the other lead to a good grounding point on the car.
5 Jiggle the relevant wiring harness while observing the ohmmeter.
^ If the ohmmeter shows infinite resistance, there is no short circuit.
^ On the other hand, if it shows low resistance or none at all, this indicates that the cable is short-circuited to ground.
