Cars in stock must be rectified before delivery.
A personal communication must be sent to the owners of cars already delivered requesting them to get in touch with the nearest Saab garage as soon as possible to have the fault rectified.
Cars affected
Saab 900 M94-98 and Saab 9-3 (9400) with detachable towbar, BRINK generation 3.0. This type of detachable hitch dealt with in this modification instruction can be recognized by its
A. Green handle
B. Lock
C. The area surrounding the indicator pin is round
All cars which have a previously-mounted detachable hitch (D) are affected.
Background
In certain cases, trailers have detached from the towing vehicle during driving. A campaign designed as a temporary solution for the detachable section of the towbar has been distributed. The fixed section of the towbar should now be replaced with an improved version.
Parts required
400 132 890 Conversion kit
The kit contains:
^ Ball unit with coupling pin
^ Bolt (2)
^ Nut (2)
^ Label
Procedure
Cars without a previously-mounted detachable section: Fit the ball unit to the coupling pin.
Bnn7:
1. Raise the car.
2. Remove the ball unit together with the coupling pin.
Mind the connector and spacer.
3. Clean the coupling pin contact surfaces with a wire brush.

4. Align the new ball unit together with the new coupling pin and insert the new bolts.
5. Align the connector and spacer.
6. Pull the ball unit downwards and tighten the new bolts and nuts.
Tightening torque 90 Nm (66.5 lbf ft)
7. Lower the car.
8. Open the boot lid, lift up the loading floor and remove the label with towbar care/use instructions and attach the new label in its place.
9. 9-3: Check that the hitch cover fits properly. Adjust if necessary.
