M/T - Gearbox Oil Application

Information reguarding oil selection during gearbox replacement.

Cars Affected:
All M94- and Cabriolet M95- models with manual gearbox

Background

A new oil has been introduced into production from January 11, 2002 (see TN 02-02-417). The following describes oil types to be used for each corresponding gearbox during replacement.

New Gearboxes

^ For gearboxes up to and including no. V35478, use gearbox oil (40) 400 108 247

^ From gearbox no. V35479, use gearbox oil MTF0063 (40) 400 132 213

Replacement Gearboxes

- For unmarked gearboxes, use gearbox oil (40) 400 108 247

- For gearboxes marked with label "MTF0063", use gearbox oil MTF0063 (40) 400 132 213

After Filling Gearbox Oil

To avoid confusion, attach the appropriate label to each corresponding oil container as follows.

- The label containing a warning triangle should be attached to the radiator member near the headlamp on the left-hand side.

- The small label should be pasted over the existing text regarding gearbox oil in the owner's manual section entitled "Technical data".
