Replacement of audio system

Cars affected
Saab 9-3

Background

The main audio unit and CD-changer (CDC) in the Saab 9-3 has a new type of anti-theft protection. Both the main audio unit and the CD-changer are connected to the I-bus. When the main audio unit and the CD-changer are installed for the first time, these components are married to that specific vehicle. This is a process that is performed with Tech 2. During marriage, the main audio unit and CD-changer identify anti-theft protection information from the vehicle. From this point on, the main audio unit and the CD-changer will only function in this vehicle. Therefore, there is no need for a radio code in the Saab 9-3.

This means that the main audio unit and CD-changer must be divorced from the vehicle before being removed from a Saab 9-3.

Replacement of main audio unit

1 Connect Tech 2.

2 Establish communication with the audio system.

3 Select "PROGRAMMING" on the system menu.

The text "Marriage/Divorce" is displayed.

4 Press "ENTER".

5 Select desired setting with the change button and press "OK".

^ When removing the main audio unit (in order to install in another car or to return it for warranty repair), "DIVORCED" must be selected.

The radio should go silent and "RADIO CODE" is displayed on the SID.

^ When installing the main audio unit in a Saab 9-3, select "MARRIED".

"RADIO CODE" disappears from the SID and the radio sound returns.

Replacement of CD-changer

1 Connect Tech 2.

2 Establish communication with the CD-changer (CDC).

3 Select "PROGRAMMING" on the system menu.

The text "Marriage/Divorce" is displayed.

4 Press "ENTER".

5 Select desired setting with the change button and press "OK".

^ When removing a CD-changer (in order to install it in another car or to return for warranty repair), select "DIVORCED".

The sound should disappear and "CDC CODE" is displayed on the SID.

^ When installing a CD-changer in a Saab 9-3, select "MARRIED".

"CDC CODE" disappears from the SID and the sound returns.

Notes:
^ If the main audio unit or CD-changer is DIVORCED, SID displays "RADIO CODE" respective "CDC CODE" when activated. Establish communication with the main audio unit using Tech 2 and follow the instructions in this material in order to marry the unit to the vehicle in question.

^ If the main audio unit or CD-changer is still married to another Saab 9-3, the SID displays "RADIO LOCKED" respective "CDC LOCKED" when activated. In order to be able to divorce any of the units using Tech 2, this must be done with the unit installed in the vehicle to which it is married.

Important:
The main audio unit and CD-changer must be divorced before they are returned for warranty repairs. The supplier cannot divorce them and will bill for all married units that are sent to them.
