Control Arm: Service and Repair


To remove
1. Raise the car and remove the front wheel on the side from which the suspension arm is to be removed.





2. Remove the nut to the anti-roll bar.
3. Loosen the ball joint nut. Use puller 89 96 696 to press out the ball joint. Remove the ball joint nut.
4. Unscrew the nut securing the stanchion to the suspension arm.
5. Remove the bolt securing the suspension arm to the subframe.


To fit
1. Fit the suspension arm to the subframe. Screw on the bolt a short way.





2. Fit the bolt for the stanchion mounting in the suspension arm. Tighten the bolt.
Tightening torque: 92 Nm (68 ft. lbs.).
3. Fit and tighten the ball joint nut.
Tightening torque: 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).

WARNING: When changing the suspension arm, the metal-lock nut must be replaced with a new one.

4. Raise the suspension arm to the same position as when the car is standing on all suspension arm to the subframe.
Tightening torque: 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
5. Screw on the anti-roll bar nut and tighten it.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.4 ft. lbs.).
6. Fit the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts.
Tightening torque: 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower the car.
